St. Mary the Virgin, Eastham
Work done on the Bell Frame
All tie-bar nuts on the frame heads were cut off as they were badly seized. The threads were run down with the die-nut and new nuts and washers fitted. The long ends were trimmed off and the tie-bars and all nuts pulled up dead tight. The cast iron copse plate on the centre crossing of the frame heads (a half-lap joint) was in three pieces. Together with its companion underneath, it has been replaced with mild steel as this will 'give' a little with the swelling and shrinking of the wood in winter and summer.
