St. Mary the Virgin, Eastham

Work done on the Bell Wheels, Clappers and Crown Staples

Wheels

The wheel upon the Treble bell had a piece broken off the shrouding on the bottom half; this was renewed.

The wheel upon the Tenor had an eighteen-inch long split in the soling of the bottom half. The complete wheel was re-rimmed.

Clappers

The flights of all clappers have been drilled and tapped to accept a ⅜" dia. stud for securing mutes to enable bell practice to take place without annoyance being caused to local residents. This has yet to be proved.

Crown Staples

When the clapper was dismantled from the crown staple of the Second, on the bench, one lug fell off. This break is of considerable age and no blame whatsoever can be put on the present ringers. A new staple has been fitted.
