The above bell, which is hung for swing-chiming in a bell turret near the south door, replaces an earlier bell which, according to Taylors' records, had no inscription or date.

The large church, which has a central dome, was designed by J.K. Collins, architect, and built by Samuel Hill Holme and John Nicol, the foundation stone being laid on 6 October 1858 and the church consecrated on 25 January 1862.
