The above notice, which was prominently displayed on the notice board in the church grounds, advises that there was to be three hours of ringing at St Mary's, i.e. a Peal. However, the Peal attempt failed when the rope on the 6th broke after about one hour's ringing. Because of time constraints the above Quarter Peal was substituted. A further Peal attempt has been arranged on these bells which are considered most appropriate for the occasion, having been cast in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of H.M. Queen Victoria in 1887.
