| Date | News Item| 18 Dec 2003 | I have just received details of the first ever Quarter Peal on the bells by a Thurstaston Sunday Service band. Numerous other firsts! Congratulations to all concerned! |

| 29 Nov 2003 | The first Simulator to be installed in the Wirral Branch is now all ready for use! With the forthcoming Listening Skills Course in mind, Port Sunlight ringers, with some assistance from Peter Robson (Thurstaston) completed the work this week. All that remains to be done is to fix the speakers at appropriate positions in the ringing chamber. |
| 18 Nov 2003 | The bells at Shotwick were rung this evening for a recording for inclusion in a broadcast, by Radio Merseyside, which is to be transmitted early in the New Year. Grandsire Doubles was rung by a band comprising Max Pemberton, Peter Humphreys, David Jones, Geoff Sparling (C), Chris Eden and Charmian Eastwood. When the exact date and time of the broadcast, which is to be transmitted on a Sunday morning from about 8 a.m., are known, this will be communicated via this website. |

| 2 Nov 2003 | In ringing a Quarter Peal today at Chester Cathedral, no fewer than SIX Wirral ringers rang their first quarter of Plain Bob Maximus - and it was a first on 12 as Conductor too! |

| 10 Oct 2003 | Congratulations to
to Georgina (daughter of Margaret Allin and niece of Peter Newton of Heswall) and Andrew Lyons on the safe arrival of Patrick William. See Quarter Peal report on Campanophile.
| 5 Oct 2003 | David Jones first Quarter Peal on 10 as Conductor scored at Chester Cathedral today. See ongoing Report.
| 1 Oct 2003 | Wirral Branch Quarter Peal month commeced. See ongoing Report.
| 29 Jun 2003 | Most appropriately on this, St Peter's Day, a "Peter Peal" was rung at Prestbury, St Peter by a band all with the name Peter. The band included three Wirral Ringers. (See Guild Website for brief report and Band Photograph).
| 28 Jun 2003 | A hastily arranged Quarter Peal at Port Sunlight was rung as a wedding compliment to former ringer Vicky Hocker (elder daughter of Dave Hocker) immediately following the marriage service today. The QP was rather hasty too (ca 41 minutes) as the wedding cars arrived late leaving just 42 minutes before the start of the following wedding. Click here for picture of ringers with bride and groom. | In the Branch 6-Bell Striking Competition held at Wallasey St Hilary this evening, Port Sunlight (13½ faults), ringing call-changes, ran out winners for the 13th time since first winning in 1985. Runners up were a 'scratch' Ringing Master's band (15½) followed by Wallasey St Nicholas and a Port Sunlight all ladies band third equal with 21 faults. The hosting tower band was placed 5th (29). Judge Peter Furniss complimented the bands on their performances on these not-so-easy bells. On this somewhat busy day for Wirral ringers, elsewhere (Surfleet) three Wirral taught ringers (Mark Humphreys and Victoria Halliwell (ex Port Sunlight) and Andrew Graham (ex Woodchurch and Bebington)) were ringing for the Ancient Society of College Youths in the National 12 Bell Striking Competition. The ASCY band was narrowly beaten into second place by Birmingham. (Evidence here that the Wirral Branch is capable of producing excellent strikers who, unfortunately for local towers, are no longer Wirral residents). 21 Jun 2003 | In the Peal rung this afternoon at Bidston to mark the 21st Birthday of Prince William, Peter Hughes scored his 500th Peal - Congratulations to Peter!
| 1 Jun 2003 | A Peal rung this afternoon to mark the 50th anniversary of the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II included 'first on 10' for Wirral Branch ringers.
| 31 May 2003 | Steven Hughes (Bromborough) scored his first Peal of 8-spliced Surprise Major at Neston this morning. Congratulations to Steve! Apparently Steve came close four years ago only for the composition to prove false!
| 19 May 2003 | As reported in last Friday's edition of The Ringing World, Neston ringer Rhiannon Matthews has rung her first Peal of 8-Spliced Surprise Royal, this as a member of the Ancient Society of College Youths. Congratulations!
| 8 May 2003 | A Quarter Peal rung at Oxton this evening included no fewer than NINE 'firsts in the method'. But it required the occasional firm hand on the tiller by conductor Peter Hughes. The band comprised nine Wirral ringers and a visitor (George Fletcher) from Derby. The Quarter Peal was rung as a birthday compliment to Gwyneth Harrison, wife of Oxton ringer Will.

| 2 Apr 2003 | A second Quarter Peal rung at Heswall in memoriam Donny Peers. See Campanophile for details. |
| 1 Apr 2003 | A previously arranged Quarter Peal rung this morning at Port Sunlight has been dedicated as a thanksgiving for the life of Donny Peers. See Campanophile for details. Also Quarter Peal rung this evening at Heswall. Again see Campanophile for details. |

| 24 Mar 2003 | Ringing for the College Youths in the National 12-Bell Striking Competition eliminator at Stourbridge on Saturday were Mark Humphreys and Vicky Halliwell, both of whom learnt to ring at Port Sunlight, and Andrew Graham who started his ringing career at Woodchurch and Bebington. The ASCY band, with 89.4%, finished a close second to Birmingham (90.8%) and so qualified for the final to be held in Surfleet on 28th June. |
| 17 Mar 2003 | The Wirral Branch Ringing Week-end in N Worcestershire was blessed with fine weather which only added to the enjoyment. A number of ringers took advantage of the special excursions on the Severn Valley Railway to Bridgnorth on the Sunday. Report to appear shortly. (Since added - see Wirral Branch Ringing Week-End. |
| 8 Mar 2003 | A Peal of Single Oxford Bob Minor was rung today at Burton as a thanksgiving for the life of Geoff Hough who died last November. This is believed to be the 1000th tower bell peal in a Wirral Branch Tower - see Campanophile for details. |
| 7 Mar 2003 | Alison Tinkler, daughter of Wirral Branch Ringing Master, Randle, graduated today at a ceremony at Chester Cathedral. She has been awarded a Diploma in Higher Education (Nursing Studies). Proud Daddy had organised a band to ring a quarter peal on eight there but Arriva Trains had other ideas which prevented two of the band leaving Bromborough Station in time! (Today's Daily Telegraph reports that Arriva will lose their franchise at the end of July so, hopefully, this sort of thing may not be so frequent in future!) (See Campanophile for details). (See also Snippets 24 March entry). |
| 20 Feb 2003 | Today's issue of The Ringing World (p 174) includes Alan Buswell's analysis of Quarter Peals published in 2002. Leading tower for Merseyside with 21 is... Port Sunlight. In his report Alan Buswell suggests that since a number of Leading Towers stay in that position year after year, perhaps ringers could move their efforts elsewhere. Hmm! |
| 15 Feb 2003 | The Branch Meeting at Eastham today, which was held from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, was attended by no less than 30 ringers including two visitors, thus assuring your Committee that his new format, at least on an occasional basis, has proved a popular one. The meeting also saw Frank Parry and Jeff Batkin of Capenhurst, joining the Guild. |
| 1 Feb 2003 | An analysis of all Quarter Peals rung in CDG Towers during 2002 (actually those reported in The Ringing World during that year) has been completed by Mike Thomson. While his report will, in due course, appear in the Guild Report 2003, a summary of the analysis concerning Wirral Branch Towers is tabulated here. For more details contact the Wirral Branch Ringing Master.

| 12 Jan 2003 | A Quarter Peal rung this afternoon at Port Sunlight for service was also to welcome Reece Eric Hamer Jones. (See Campanophile for details). Note: It was almost twenty years ago that Eric Jones conducted a Quarter Peal of Plain Bob Triples at Port Sunlight to welcome Heather Phillips, daughter of George. Todays quarter peal was conducted by George to welcome Eric's son, so there is a nice symmetry here! It is understood that a Quarter Peal rung at Chester Cathedral on 5th January was also a welcome to Reece. (No details on Campanophile at present). |
| 7 Jan 2003 | Congratulations to Rhiannon Matthews of Neston who rang her first peal as Conductor today - Cambridge Surprise Royal at Bishopstoke, Hants. (See Campanophile for details). |
| 1 Jan 2003 | A Quarter Peal rung for New Year's Day Service at West Kirby was also a welcome to Reece Eric Hamer Jones (see News Archive 2002). (See Campanophile for details). |
