Christ Church, Port Sunlight
Work done on the Bell Installation
Late 1980's - Early 1990's
This 'Report' is an attempt to record the extensive work carried out at Port Sunlight by the now late John Baird, non-ringing Steeplekeeper at this church for over ten years until his demise in 1998.
Frame
All nuts on frame tie bolts removed, usually necessitating drilling and splitting. Threads on tie-bolts dressed using die-nut. Replaced with new washers and nuts. All tightened hard.
All nuts on angle brackets likewise replaced as necessary and tightened hard.
New angle iron bracket fitted to Tenor (?) pit as none present where believed should be.
Second
Stay-side (?) bearing found to be damaged; replaced with new.
Clappers
Due to the frequent breaking of the original (1904) Clappers, especially on the tenors, these were all replaced, in due course, with new clappers and crown staples ex Taylor's Bellfoundry.
Initially, just the Seventh and Tenor Clappers were replaced followed, a couple of years later, by those of the front six.
From memory, it is believed that this work was completed during the early 1990's.
