WIRRAL BRANCH QUARTER PEAL WEEK
19th - 27th October 2002
(See also The Ringing World No. 4781 (December 13, 2002) p1264).

The Wirral Branch of the Chester DG held its Quarter Peal week during half-term with a view to involving more ringers. As it transpired this was not altogether a brilliant idea as some ringers found other things to do during their break from school! Consequently the aim of scoring quarter peals at all (ringable) Wirral towers in 2002, which would itself have been a first, was not achieved - at least not by the end of the week. Never-the-less there were some worthwhile successes, most especially the first quarter peal by a Rock Ferry Ringer, the first such achievement since before WW II! With only two quarters lost, a success rate of 80% was considered satisfactory. The Wirral Branch welcomed the support of ringers from adjacent branches - Chester, and Liverpool (LACR), the former assisting at Capenhurst which is pastorally shared with Backford of the Chester Branch.
