1914

A seventeenth century tenor bell of a ring of three, in use at Bebington until 1825, was bought by Revd. T.F. Redhead sometime thereafter for use at this church. Nothing more is presently known of this bell - not even if it was ever used here by incorporation or after re-casting or melting down to provide bell-metal.

The original (1859) ring of five by C. & G. Mears, Whitechapel, tenor approximately 7 cwts, was recast into the present six in 1914 by Taylors, the bells being hung in an H-Frame of cast iron on plain bearings and fitted with Hastings stays. The Bellhanger was Mr H. Bentley.

The above information has been extracted from archive material - return from July, 1939 survey conducted by the Chester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers - supplemented by data (weights and diameters) from Taylors of Loughborough (March 2002). However, the 1939 survey did not include all the text on the tenor, ending with the names of the remembered. The additional text was established by inspection on 11 June 2002.
