The programme for the year was successfully executed with some events proving more popular than others. The attendance for most of the meetings was in excess of thirty, with an average of twenty sitting down for tea. It remains to be seen if the format of more ringing and less business has proved to be the order of the day.
The Wirral Branch played host to the Guild A.G.M. with a number of towers being made available for ringing throughout the day. The striking competition was held at West Kirby and tea was provided by Bromborough-Eastham towers. I should like to thank all who helped to organise this event.
In August the Branch provided a "Summer School" for our new ringers, and it is hoped that we can do the same for 1999. The effort put in by those who supported the Summer School has seen the rewards reflected in the standard of ringing at those towers where the bells were mainly silent before. As we all know, our purpose is to provide Sunday Service ringing and this is still our main priority. Having said that, we must not forget that we also like to enjoy ourselves. This has taken many forms from prolific peal and quarter peal ringing and a successful quarter peal week to a 'spot' of line dancing organised in the latter part of the year.
The year came to a close with the annual Christmas Dinner. This year a most excellent meal being provided by Eastham and Bromborough after the afternoon ringing at Port Sunlight.
