| William Clibury | 1616 The weight of the tenor has been recorded in Guild Annual Reports since at least 1980 as 8-0-3 whereas Dove's Guide has consistently recorded the weight as 8-3-0. Clearly an error of transcription, but which way? Alex Martin has shed light on the matter by referring to a 1938 Guild Annual Report in which the first peal on the six, on 6 December 1938, is recorded. The report states that the tenor was eight-and-three-quarter cwt so 8-3-0 is the correct version although the number in the lb column may not be accurate. In that peal was a certain J.W. Clarke so it is very unlikely that the weight reported there was wrong.
| The tenor of the original ring of three (Click here for photograph), cast by John Scott of Wigan in 1664, was found, in 1938, to be cracked and could not be used in the augmentation. | It now resides at the bottom of the tower and bears the inscription: W IS | ||||||||||
