Millennium Peal at Shotwick

In 1998, when plans were being made to for ringing to mark the millennium, it was suggested that a peal should be rung at Shotwick as there had only one peal there since 1975. The bells were duly inspected by Tommy Morgan, who found them to be in remarkably good condition for a silent tower, and a peal was accordingly arranged and duly completed.

Notwithstanding the excellent ‘go’ of the bells, the dry, cool conditions on the day and the consequent poor ‘purchase’ on the sallies led to a number of the band suffering sore wrists by the end of the peal. The bottles of wine and hot mince pies, which awaited the ringers, proved more than adequate encouragement to stay the course! Furthermore, the offer of the usual peal donation was declined and this sum, together with a further donation of £25 from the parish, was assigned to the branch BRF.

Anyone wishing to ring at Shotwick is asked to kindly direct their enquiries via the Wirral Branch Ringing Master.
