| (The update of 08/09/04 revises the estimated weights based on a chart circulated via the Bell Historians discussion group and which contains estimated weights of bells from 20 to 60 inches diameter for Mears, Taylor and Warner bellfounders). | The first bell, which is hung at the base of the tower, is used both as a clock bell and, by use of a spring clapper, as a calling bell. It is hung in a pitch pine frame and has a timber headstock and canons. It is also fitted with a shaped stay but no slider, ground pulley or box. The wheel is of traditional pattern but in a very poor state with no shrouds on the rim. The original clapper is not present but may be found in a cupboard at the base of the tower. In addition to the inscription text above, there is also the foundry crest and the text 'PATENT'. The second bell, complete with canons, is hung on a bracket attached to the wall in the Thornton Hough Parish Centre, formerly the village CofE Primary School.
(See Thornton Hough AS Picture Gallery for pictures of the bells).
